Channel Owner Guidelines
Contained herein are the guidelines that channel owners must consider when setting up a channel on SystemNet
Why do we have these guidelines?
As logic would dictate, the quality of a network is determined by the average quality of the channels that inhabit the network.
In order for us to make the network as enjoyable experience as possible, we have a set of guidelines that channel owners are recommended to follow to ensure that the network quality is not negitively impacted by its services or users.
Creating a new channel:
- Ensure that the name of your channel is appropriate. Your channel will be set to +s if the name is deemed inappropriate.
- Take care to ensure the intended channel use falls in line with the network rules.
- Consider if the general mentality of your users may cause issues on the network.
- If your channel may have more than 100 users, you must inform an available IRC Operator before doing so, as a matter of courtesy and network routing
Choosing your channel staff:
- Ensure that you select responsible members of staff who know a little about channel management.
- If you or your channel operators participate in spamming your channel name to other channels, then your channel is at risk of deletion.
IMPORTANT: Java Clients
- You must inform an IRC operator before setting up a Java Client, or all members connecting from it will be akilled.
- The client must have the /JOIN, /J, /RAW, /QUOTE and /LIST commands disabled.
- The client must not allow their users access to the network channel list.
- The Realname portion of the Java Client needs to reflect your channel name or website.<
- If the Java Client is identified as a source of trouble on the network, the owner will be given a report about the instances, then an akill will be placed if the issue is not resolved.
- If you are upgrading or making changes to your client, make sure all of the above rules remain within complaince.
IMPORTANT: CGI:IRC Clients
- You must inform an IRC operator before setting up a CGI:IRC client, or the clients IP could be akilled for cloning.
- The client must have the /JOIN, /RAW, /QUOTE and /LIST commands disabled.
- The client must now allow their users access to the network channel list.
- The IDENT of the CGI:IRC client must represent the users IP in hexadecimal form.
- The Realname of the CGI:IRC client must represent the website which owns it. (The users full hostname is also acceptible as a substitute)
- If the CGI:IRC client is identified as a source of ban evasion/spam on the network, the owner will be given a report about the instances, then an akill will be placed if the issue is not resolved.
- If you are upgrading or making changes to your client, make sure all of the above rules remain within complaince.
* If we all follow these guidelines, we are helping to increase the quality and experience of the network for all members who use it!
* Remember that the server operators are the final interpreters of these rules and will execute appropriate action as they see fit for the protection of the network and it's resources.
